Thermography: A Safe Tool for Whole-Body Health
At Schoenwalder Health & Wellness, we believe in using cutting-edge tools to detect imbalances early—before they develop into more serious health concerns. One of the tools we proudly offer in our office is thermography, a safe, non-invasive, radiation-free imaging tool that can help us to see patterns of inflammation and dysfunction in the body long before symptoms may arise.
What Is Thermography?
Thermography, or Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI), uses infrared cameras to detect and record heat patterns on the skin’s surface. These patterns can reflect changes in blood flow and metabolic activity—key indicators of inflammation or abnormal function. Because thermography is sensitive to physiological changes, it can be used to screen for potential problems even when structural imaging (like mammograms or MRIs) appears normal.
What Can Thermography Be Used For?
Thermography may be used as part of preventive or adjunctive health screening to provide additional information about the body’s thermal patterns. Potential applications include:
- Breast health monitoring – identifying abnormal heat patterns that could signal early dysfunction
- Thyroid irregularities – detecting inflammation or vascular changes in the thyroid region
- Sinus and dental infections – including possible hidden abscesses or chronic sinus inflammation
- Neurological patterns – such as those associated with migraines or nerve impingement
- Musculoskeletal conditions – like arthritis, fibromyalgia, or soft tissue injury
- Chronic inflammation – observing patterns that may reflect systemic inflammatory activity
- Lymphatic congestion – tracking areas that could indicate fluid retention or immune activity
Thermography does not replace diagnostic tests but can offer earlier insight, helping to inform your overall wellness plan.
Why We Use Thermography in Functional Medicine
Functional medicine emphasizes proactive care and early intervention, which makes thermography a valuable tool in our approach. We use it to:
- Detect imbalances before symptoms arise
- Monitor treatment progress over time
- Complement other diagnostics to provide a more complete picture of your health
- Empower patients with data to make informed lifestyle and treatment decisions
Because thermography is radiation-free and non-invasive, it is safe for repeated use—ideal for ongoing monitoring and peace of mind.
Thermography Is Available In Our Office
We are proud to offer thermography as part of our in-office services. Whether you’re proactively monitoring your breast health, exploring unexplained pain, or managing a chronic inflammatory condition, thermography provides another layer of insight to help us guide your care.
If you’re interested in thermographic imaging or want to learn more about how it might support your health journey, reach out to our team. Preventative health is powerful—and thermography is one of the tools helping us lead the way.
Disclaimer: Results are individual and may vary, and thermography is considered a complementary screening tool rather than a definitive diagnostic method. Thermography is not a standalone screening or diagnostic test and does not replace mammography. We do not use thermography to detect or diagnose cancer.
