About Dr. Michael Schoenwalder
Premier Leader in St. Louis Functional Medicine
Board-Certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM), Integrative Medicine (ABOIM), and Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine (ABAARM), Fellow of the St. Louis Institute of Integrative Medicine (SLIIM), and recognized expert in Functional Medicine and Prolozone and Ozone Therapy (AAOT)
Dr. Michael Schoenwalder has been providing compassionate, evidence-based care since 2005. After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University—graduating third in his class—he completed his Internal Medicine residency at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
For the first 10 years of his career, Dr. Schoenwalder practiced conventional Internal Medicine. Over time, however, he grew increasingly frustrated with a healthcare system that often focused on managing symptoms rather than promoting true healing. Determined to offer more to his patients, he pursued advanced training in Functional and Preventative Medicine through the University of South Florida from 2012–2013.
Since integrating Functional Medicine into his practice, Dr. Schoenwalder has seen the transformative impact of treating the whole person—addressing root causes rather than isolated symptoms. He remains dedicated to continuing education and regularly updates his credentials to remain an expert at the forefront of integrative care.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Dr. Mike is a proud husband and father of four—Justin, Jacob, Joshua, and Josie—and their dogs Jasmine and Jinger. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, especially at Blues games, and can often be found at the gym during early morning workouts or running on the weekends.
